Drugstore vs. Department Store Nail Polish

I flipped open a magazine last night and read that the difference between expensive and cheap nail polish is the staying power. If you really want a polish for everyday, you should get the expensive kind and just use drugstore polish to experiment with colour.

To this I say: not true at all.

There is virtually no difference between drugstore polish and salon polish. Each brand has their own formula, and you'll find that even between salon polishes, there are ones that go on smoother and last longer and ones that clump up and are difficult to apply. This applies to polishes across the board - drugstore and salon!
Right now, I'm using L'Oreal Nail Polish in the colour you see: Stroke of Midnight (580)(I know, I just can't let go of the dark colours.)

The quality is really good. It goes on smoothly, gives good colour in two coats, last a long time, and dries really shiny.

You're absolutely right about there being no difference between cheap & expensive nail polishes. Polish is my favourite cosmetic and I have over 100 bottles and would tell anyone that they should choose the colours that they love and not worry so much about price. I am, however, partial to OPI nail polish because of their extra wide brush. It really does make the application cleaner.

Personally, I don't like the wide brushes and L'Oreal has it too. I like having that little space between the polish and the cuticle and a wide brush makes it difficult for me to do that. I love OPI's colours though!

When it comes down to it, expensive brands come up with the trendy colours a lot sooner. When Black polish was starting to be talked about 2 years ago, I couldn't find it at all in drugstores here, but salons had tons of them!

I totally agree, Henna. I also find Sally Hansen to be pretty decent... and cheap!

I have that L'Oreal polish! Its great. I really like L'Oreal nail polish. Rimmel is awesome too. Sally Hansen's salon line lasts forever but takes a ridiculously long time to dry. I kept getting sheet marks with it, so I stopped using it. Putting a quick dry topcoat like Seche Vite completely took care of the problem, though, and my manicure lasted a week.

Fully agree on all accounts! Quick dry is a girl's best friend, especially if you're doing your nails minutes before an event and need it to dry quickly.
